As a vast majority of IOC members believe that in the case that we will not be able to organize the IYPT 2021 as a real on-site tournament we should plan for organizing an online version of it, we have started discussions on how and under what conditions might be possible. We will provide a specific plan within a few months.
Anyway, a real on-site tournament stays a clear priority for us. However, based on the survey only 20 IOC members plan for now to send a team to Pakistan for IYPT 2021, many of them conditioning this possibility on a better situation with the Covid pandemic. This is why it seems the best solution is to postpone Pakistan IYPT for the year 2023 (with Romania 2022).
Due to the fact that it is hard to make bounding plans for next summer under current circumstances, we aim to have next year an event open for all teams but reduced in the sense of keeping it to the foundations of IYPT – physics fights. We are happy to go as far as to organize it similar to a conference – the organizer would have to provide competition rooms, auditorium, and infrastructure, IYPT would provide full support with organization and jury management (including independent jurors) and the teams would be individually responsible for the management of travel, lodging, and food.
